The Plight of Religious Freedom in India

USCIRF has been closely monitoring the situation in India. Dr. Katrina Lantos Swett, Vice Chair, United States Commission on International Religious Freedom (USCIRF) In her report she said that,
In the months leading up to India’s 2014 national elections, there has been a rise in acts of violence targeting religious minorities and an increase in discriminatory rhetoric that has polarized national politics along religious and class lines. Underlying problems have been exacerbated by the implementation of ‘Freedom of Religion Acts’ across five Indian states, which have led to higher reported incidents of intimidation, discrimination, harassment, and violence against minorities. Severe outbreaks of communal violence against religious minorities, including the 2002 Gujarat riots targeting Muslims, the 2007 mob attacks against Christians in Odisha, and the anti-Sikh riots of 1984 have socially and economically marginalized large pockets of religious minority communities. As the 2014 Indian elections draw closer, it is important to examine the implications of this polarization in the context of the US-India relationship.

  1. This statement is very ubsurd.Only in India minorities are safe. They have more previleges than the majorities. If one section of minorities keep quite, there will not be any problem. But in the name of religion, they do unwanted things. They go for conversion.Their main aim is conversion. In the past brokers were roaming in the streets to get people for birth controll. As like till date these people try their level best for conversion. They should know that religion is not a marketing goods.People should come and join in their own interest.Only because of this conversion, trouble starts. While speaking about odissa riiots, why the killing of Lakshmananathaji an 80 old veteran social workers is left out?Gujarat riots was only because of Gothra carnage. Here that incident also voluenterily left out.It is purely an one side statement. In one of the Tamil magazine,it was reported that because of the arrival of Lakshmananathaji,a social worker in Odissa all trible people who were converted came to their mother religion.Because of this, number of NGOs getting foreign funds had to close their office.Up to that time they were receiving nearly 160 crores per year from foreign countries. Then this social worker was killed mercilessly.Every coin has two sides. It is better to come out with an open fair statement.Instead consentrating her attention to the Indian side, the author better go to Pakistan and see there how the minority Hindus are regularly eliminated.15% of Hindus are reduced to mere 2%.All over the world,no minorities have rights as in India.
